First of all, thanks to Neville James for having me back on “Analyze This” on WTJX. It’s always a pleasure to check in and to connect with The Soul Show’s listeners in the VI. As promised, here are the follow-up notes to our chat:
- Eki Shola’s “Kaeru” album: Eki Shola, West Indian via UK, who reinvented herself from physician to musician after some major life events. Her latest release, “Kaeru,” is a definite candidate for my 2024 Top Ten Albums selections.
- Another couple of favorites are Ethiopian Americans Gabriel Teodros and Meklit Hadero. Yale-educated Meklit has one of the greatest voices of the modern day, and Gabriel’s refugeeism-inspired “Ashes Of Our Homes” is a ’24 masterpiece.
- This coming (7/20/24) episode is “All The Day Live,” a presentation of concert performances.
- Nigel Hall’s “Burning Bush” tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire is a good listen. So is James “Biscuit” Rouse’s tribute to Buddy Miles.
- Here’s a photo I took of St. John native Arnold Stagger. Thanks to his homeboy, St. Paul transplant, who gave Arnold a shout-out.
- My Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis and Alex O’Neal interviews are here.
- More (that we didn’t discuss):
- Don’t miss The Soul Pod, my revived podcast, that will feature Jonnet Solomon, who rescued the historic National Negro Opera Company house from demolition.
- Next week, we’ll honor Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon through her Sweet Honey In The Rock music,
