Homestead, Pennsylvania – In a quiet ceremony, the remains of singer songwriter Betty Mabry Davis (July 26, 1945-February 9, 2022) were laid to rest in her hometown of Homestead, Pennsylvania, a community just outside of Pittsburgh. Ms. Davis spent her final years in a senior apartment complex near her burial site which is marked with a beautiful headstone. She passed away in 2022 and with the recent closing of the estate the remaining ashes were buried at the site. According to her wishes in March of this year some of her ashes were scattered over Mt. Fuji, a request she shared with her friends.
Betty is celebrated in Homestead with a mural in the popular Waterfront shopping district, located on the grounds of the former Homestead Steel Mill, where her father, Henry, worked when the family first moved to Homestead. Her grave, located in Section L-Annex, Row 18, Grave D, in Homestead Cemetery is situated above the community she called home for most of her life.
Friends and family of Betty Davis invited me to witness and record their private ceremony, with a return several months later to see the beautiful headstone.
