Cissy Houston
Join me Canton for a tribute to Cissy Houston, mother of Whitney and aunt of Dionne Warwick. In addition to her groundbreaking gospel work with The Drinkard Singers and The Sweet Inspirations, she was one of the greatest background vocalists of all time…over 600 recording credits with Aretha, Paul Simon, Hendrix, Van Morrison, Elvis and others.
The Soul Pod
These have been a busy few weeks, creating The Soul Show special features on Cissy Houston, Claude “Coffee” Cave, Sergio Mendes and Biscuit Rouse. The Soul Pod’s sophomore release is now back in production mode, with release very soon. Here, Byron Nash/guitarist is telling how he met NASH.V.ILL member Jacquea Mae for the first time. It’s a silent clip…I can’t not tease you just a lil.
Hold tight!
Planning
Next week on The Soul Show, in honor of RRHOF inductees Dionne Warwick and Robert “Kool” Bell, I’ll reprise my interviews with them and weave their music throughout the episode. Also, Halloween is upon us.
The 2024 Top Ten Albums candidacy list is getting long, with a slew of recent material coming into play. The vetting process begins at the beginning of November.
The Soul Pod guest list is pretty exciting, including Pittsburgh artists, an old WYEP cohort, some Pittsburgh movershakers, and more. More details to come. November will be busy.
