TSS this week: Remembering Stephen “Cat” Coore of Third World

On TSS this week, Mike Canton honors Stephen “Cat” Coore of the fabled reggae-fusion band Third World.  He passed away in January 2026.  One highlight is Mike’s interview from the mid-2010s in which Cat recalls the development of one of reggae’s most legendary tracks.

Also, the 50th Anniversary lookbacks move forward to 1976, beginning with Deniece Williams’ debut album, produced and instrumentally supported by members of Earth, Wind & Fire.  “This Is Niecy” is one of Mike’s favorite freshman R&B releases of all time.

Good day, Mike. Farmer Chris here. I absolutely love Third World. Years ago I had the pleasure of being on a crew that cooked dinner for them when they played the Commodore ballroom in Vancouver. Such talented guys super talented. I think I remember Ibo playing Mozart during sound. I think most of the guys were classically trained. Can’t wait to listen to your interview all the best and thanks for keeping the good music flowing but a good folks out here.
