BOOM Concepts, Butcher Brown, Open Mic Discovered, WHM on The Soul Show

Boom Concepts’ “Immersive Jam”

In addition to its traditional offerings, Chamber Music Pittsburgh presents a set of collaborative and unconventional musical events throughout the year. On February 28th, CMP supported BOOM Concepts in “On The Inside – An Immersive Jam with BOOM Concepts” at Community Forge. It’s the old Johnston School converted into a fine community space.

As soon as you entered the room and saw the seating pattern, you realized what “immersion” meant.

The performers included Anqwenique, Shanyse Strickland, Shad Ali and others, and the music swept from Debussy to Zo! to hiphop. There was a light show, a dancer working the perimeter and inside of a bubble space, and lots of refreshments.

Up next is BASSCHAMBER at the new Joe Negri Auditorium.

The “Wall of Sound” series’ latest installment at the August Wilson was Richmond’s Butcher Brown, a funk/fusion outfit that debuted in Pittsburgh last year. The talk of the evening was percussionist Corey Fonville. Janis Burley Wilson, CEO of the AWCC, revealed shortly thereafter that the band will return for the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival in June.
