The Soul Show 2022, Wknd 2: FoF on 3R@3, McLaughlin

On this second Saturday of 2022, just when I thought things would be quiet, here’s where I was wrong:

  • Mahavishnu Orchestra founder John McLaughlin turned 80, so we’ll weave through his collaborations with Miles Davis, Trio of Doom and Carlos Santana
  • Friendz of Funk make their TSS debut, opening the Three Rivers at Three set (3:00-3:20 Eastern)
  • P-Funk celebrations abound, with Dawn Silva, Glenn Goins and Grady Thomas birthdays this week
  • You’ll hear Sunpie, a new New Orleans discovery
  • In 2021, we focused on 1971. This week, we begin a 50-year lookback at 1972: Caravanserai, Willie Mitchell/Al Green, and more

  • (The Sidney Poitier and Calvin Simon news came in after this week’s production deadline, so we’ll honor them next week)
