The Soul Show begins every week with a track from the Stax Records house band, but this week takes a deeper dive, Jim Stewart, co-founder of Stax, passed away in early December ’22. The label brought us Otis Redding, Carla Thomas, and integrated acts that were ahead of their sociopolitical time.
Also, in celebration of Con Funk Shun’s return to Pittsburgh for the We Want The Funk festival, I recorded a lively and insightful interview with leaders Michael Cooper and Felton Pilate II. We talk about their recent work, and the formula for years of success.
All of this, of course, wrapped around the usual eclectic presentation of The Soul Show. Enjoy a peek at the latest from Lisa Marie Simmons, Notespeak 12.
