Over the 2022 summer, I was invited to teach an Osher Lifelong Learning Institute course at University of Pittsburgh. I developed a course entitled “The Soul of Pittsburgh,” and invited several key music stakeholders to record interviews with me about the local scene. They were an august group, including Justin Strong, Liz Berlin and Christiane Leach. What better time to post these than when you can sit down, take your time and absorb some history and reflections? Let’s start with Justin, who founded the East Liberty culture incubator Shadow Lounge + AVA. It’s fascinating stuff.
