The Soul Show has been in rebroadcast mode for a few weeks due to some travel. I’m now in the process of preparing the Clive Davis special. Sometimes while reading the history of a musical figure, I realize that what I knew was only 1/10th. Gil Scott-Heron was Clive’s first signing at Arista Records, for example. Looking forward to presenting this one. Delmarva, WZUM and WIUP will air it on August 1.
Ya Jagoff
Yours truly is scheduled to guest on one of Pittsburgh’s most popular podcasts, Ya Jagoff, on August 7th. Aside from a free-flowing interview, I’m supposed to bring a small memento for their “junk drawer”…I have a little while to figure that out. It should be a lot of fun.
Tri-C JazzFest, Cleveland
Tri-C was June’s musical highlight. In the decade-plus of going, this felt like the biggest step change. The classic and modern scenes were beautifully melded, with everything from Ron Carter to MonoNeon. Kudos to the new director, Orlando Watson, for the transformational success.
