In the past week, Jellybean Johnson and Jimmy Cliff passed away, the former a founder of The Time, the latter a major reggae catalyst. I started putting together some tribute material together in my head, plus, of course, some research is needed. Turns out that Dylan considers Cliff’s “Vietnam” the best protest song of that genre, according to the BBC. Noted.
Also, “The Harder They Come” flick helped to land reggae onto the American music canvas. For me, this movie, featuring Cliff, is the Jamaican analog to the Blaxploitation films that of its period.
I’ll have this double tribute ready for the December 6 broadcasts.

Great to celebrate these men and their effecton music and culture!
Spectacular research!
Thanks, Joan! The research is fun.
